Communication with the transport inspector

12/03/2024

In this post we will discuss the rules of communication with state road transport inspectors.

If you feel fear and uncertainty before the inspection, then do not worry. Time to pay attention to the sequence of actions when stopped by the police.

If you get out of the car at the request of an inspector, then you should immediately remember whether your seat belt was fastened. This could be a safety check.

However, it is worth remembering that you are required to get out of the car only after an order to search your car. Or in case of arrest and suspension from driving.

The driver has the right:
— ask a question about your name and position/title;
— find out the reason for the stop;
— disagreement with the protocol and refusal to sign the document;
— to waive the collection of rights directly by the inspector on site;
— to receive copies of the protocol;
— for medical examination;
— for compensation of losses and protection of one’s own rights.

You should not speak to the inspector in a rude tone. The same thing works in the opposite direction — you should not react to rude words from a representative of the traffic police. Otherwise, it may be regarded as an insult to a government official. This violation is subject to a monetary fine.

CAR4RU reminds you that agreeing to a bribe results in criminal liability. You cannot resort to cooperation with an inspector who hints at “settling the problem peacefully.” This could be a provocation on the part of the employee. Proposing yourself also comes with serious responsibilities.

In any unclear situation, you should contact the video recording system. It often helps to decide which side is violating the laws. It is also not prohibited to audio record a conversation with a police officer. The materials can help even in cases that are brought to trial.

To summarize all of the above, you need to remember three main rules: tact, attentiveness and honesty.

We wish you peaceful travels!
